The Walking Dead vypráví o měsících a letech, které následují po zombie apokalypse. Sleduje skupinu přeživších vedenou bývalým policistou Rickem Grimesem, kteří putují a hledají bezpečný domov. Svět ovládnutý mrtvými si na nich vybírá svou daň a vzájemné spory mezi nimi se nakonec ukazují jako větší hrozba než chodci, kteří se toulají krajinou. Neustálá blízkost smrti postavy mění a někteří jsou pro přežití ochotni udělat cokoli.
