Joey je spin-off seriálu Friends (1994) a pokračuje v příběhu okouzlujícího a stále svobodného Joeyho, který se osamostatnil a odstěhoval do Hollywoodu s nadějí, že se opravdu prosadí jako herec. Joey se loučí s dobou, kdy mu přátelé byli rodinou, a vítá příležitost udělat si z rodiny přátele. Po shledání se svou temperamentní sestrou Ginou, ráznou a přitažlivou kadeřnicí, se nastěhuje k jejímu geniálnímu dvacetiletému synovi Michaelovi, doktorandovi, který je doslova raketový inženýr. Co Joeymu chybí na knižní chytrosti, to bohatě vynahrazuje uměním jednat s lidmi. Lepšího nového kamaráda si jeho synovec přát nemohl.
